CHESS WORLD RECORD!

Mr.Ding or Liren is unbeaten through his last 98 games (and counting) thus eclipsing Mikhail Tal's 44 y/o record of 95 games.

Kudos to the new record holder.
An unbeaten streak in chess is difficult to set any sort of record on. I'm sure an average GM playing 1000-1500 players could top this record easily. The average opponent during such a win span is a big factor. Ding is rated 2800, if he played a bunch of 24-2500s instead of 27-2800s then it would be easier to get.
It looks like his streak is mostly against titled players in the 2600+ range. Includes two draws against Carlsen.
Ding's average opposition is well over 2700, he plays mostly only top tournaments including the candidates, the world cup, shamkir, norway chess, olympiad etc. He has the highest performance rating of any player in 2018 with 2850. I think Ding deserves just as much recognition as many of the other well known top players, even though it doesn't seem like he gets it. I'm pretty sure his streak is still only at 94 though, not at 98 yet.
