Lost to a minority attack

Today I lost my first game on this site. I feel that it was quite an instructive game. My opponent executed a minority attack on the queenside and I was clueless about how to counter it. Could better players give me some insights or advice?

Hello, LDJ;

Your problem in this game was based in passivity and unnecessary solidity. Moves like 9. (...), Qc7 demostrated it, or 20. (...), Re7, that basicly, gives a valious tempo to your opponent; he destroyed your activity in just two moves (positional disaster), in 21st. and 22nd. move.

Another concept you have to secure is the concept of space and pawn structure, because in move 23rd, you gave your opponent the possibilty to promote a queen, "pigeonhole" your pieces and lost, as said, any hint of initiative.

you dont like isolated pawns, eh? 19..c5. Play more games with isolated pawns, eg try Tarrasch against 1.d4. So that you get a better feeling for their dynamics.
